We seem like such tiny specks of dust on an enormous rock floating in space in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn’t make our lives here on Earth any lesser. Understanding our place in this world only helps us find meaning.
On January 4th, I chose to spend the afternoon sitting outside of a coffee shop with one of my roommates, and we simply sketched our surroundings. The prompt was to capture the designed environment in Savannah, so we encouraged one another to open our eyes to the world around us.
We sat, we ate, we drank, and we sketched. As we drew away the afternoon, I became more at peace with the practice of sketching. Going into it, I wanted to challenge myself to draw with nothing but a sharpie because it felt more permanent and natural. Each pen stroke mattered, and it wasn’t something I could simply erase if I drew in pencil. In the midst of it all, I couldn’t help but think that’s how I should be living my daily life, unafraid of making mistakes and being bold with my creativity, and confident in my ability. So, as I sat there in my little corner of the world for the afternoon, it brought me joy to know that I was growing in that moment, and I hope to continue to do so.
