Walk in the Park

My classmates and I were given the prompt to take a walk in a nearby park known as Forsyth in Savannah. Directly after our class meeting, we took a walk to allow ourselves the time to take in our surroundings, trace our path, and open ourselves up to something we may not have encountered otherwise. I am a very visually-oriented person, as an artist and a designer, but during this time, I noticed how I was latching onto sounds and connecting the two. As I approached the central portion of the park, I could hear the sweet melody of a trumpet and the "tsk" of a neighboring tambourine. "Gotta find the music," I thought to myself. Then I heard the "whizz" of a skateboard, and moments later, I saw a group of kids on both roller skates and skateboards just down the way from the fountain. It's fascinating how sound travels and how it enhances our visual experiences even more. I continued to walk and followed each of the sounds that made my ears perk up. "The sound of music meshed with nature and human interaction," I reflected, "getting a glimpse into a fraction of a person's daily life." In the end, I know I would have missed out on this opportunity if I hadn't given myself the time to do so.
