What does it mean to truly rest?

Inspired by @morganharpernichols poetry podcast & app @thestorytellerco

I am learning that it is okay to rest, shut off my brain, and take a deep breath. Rest does not make me lesser than; it just means I am a human in need of time to recharge. If we are constantly "on," we will have nothing left to give at the end of the day. As the saying goes, "you can't pour from an empty bucket," so take time to replenish your soul. Go for a walk. Take a breath of fresh air. Seek out nature. Read a book. Cook a nutritious meal. Sing your favorite song. Find a moment of peace amidst the busyness of life.

I am also learning that productivity looks different for everyone and that growth is a process that takes time. I am not going to be good at something right away, and that is okay. I am still learning to trust the process of developing my skills, and that is where imminent change steps in.

May the sunshine that peaks in through the window brighten the room, lift your spirits, and remind you that every morning is a new beginning. As you rise with the sun, may you know that there is peace to come. Every day, you get the chance to create something new; may you find inspiration in the simple things today.

Ask yourself, what truth do you need to be reminded of? Here are a few for me:

  • Your identity is not found in the hustle.

  • Your performance does not dictate if you are enough.

  • You are worthy and deserving of rest.

  • You are allowed to take time for yourself.

  • You are fully capable of doing hard things.

"You are changing in beautiful ways. You are not who you used to be. You are growing wiser every day." - MHN
